The FIJI Water Flying Fijians visit to Taveuni for a week’s camp is a win-win situation for both the players and the people of the Garden Island.
This is according to coach Simon Raiwalui who says the visit will only benefit everyone.
“Coming to Taveuni was all about connecting with our people. We came here so that our players can see where they are from,” Raiwalui said.
He added that while the players had benefited from the trip, the villagers enjoyed hosting the team as well.
“Everywhere we have been to, people have danced and we could only see smiles on their faces. We understand it is the first time for many of these people to meet the national players and that means a lot to them as well as our players.”
Raiwalui said while it was about reconnecting the players to their pasts, it also meant to re-build on the future.
“Every afternoon we train, we have seen children come running to the players after the sessions. It is sure to inspire many of them.
“They have got the opportunity to meet their stars and this is something we had come here for.”
The team returns from Taveuni on Saturday for another week on camp on Nadi next week.
