Fijian-born professional singer Sumeet Tappoo will be the guest star at the 2022 Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) awards night.

This was confirmed by FPRA at a media conference held at their head office in Suva yesterday.

FPRA board chair Eremasi Tamanisau said Tappoo was truly a Fijian-born icon and an award winning international performing artist with a base in Mumbai, India as well as an international philanthropist working in Fiji, spearheading the mission of selfless service in Fiji,” Tamanisau said.

“Under his leadership, Fiji is now a home to the South Pacific’s first children’s heart hospital which offers all heart surgeries and treatment completely free of charge.”

Tappoo said he was happy to be part of the event.

“I’m a singer in the Indian film industry and I am based in Mumbai and I’m singing Indian songs obviously and I get introduced as a Bollywood artist. But before being introduced as a Bollywood artist, whenever I perform anywhere in the world, before my name it’s actually Fiji that comes first.”

The 2022 FPRA Music Awards will be held at the Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) on October 1.
