Tanivula happy with team’s achievement

THE Fijiana team returns today after finishing at fifth place in the Sydney 7s’ Women’s Sevens Series.

They beat France 31-12 with the first try to Viniana Riwai under the posts after a scissors pass from Lavenia Tinai in the second minute. Tinai converted for a 7-0 lead.

The in the 4th Rusila Nagasau pounced on a loose ball and raced to the try line to push the lead to 14-0.

Fiji’s Pricilla Siata was sent to the bin for a high tackle and France utilised the one woman less in the Fijiana list to score before Lina Guerin dotted their second for the break at 14-12.

Nagasau and Tinai had a try each in the second spell to enable them to finish on the top five with a 31-12 win over France.

“I am happy with the way we finished,” coach Iliesa Tanivula said.

“It shows consistency as we move up the table in the series. We are going to rest now and start training after two weeks to prepare for Las Vegas.”

Meanwhile, Canada won the gold medal after beating USA 21-7, bronze medal went to New Zealand, hosts Australia finished fourth and Fiji fifth.
