Tani brothers set to fight for Fiji Bati spots

BROTHERS Kaliova and Leveni Tani ready to make their mark in today’s Battle of the Bati, also setting their sights in representing Fiji in the upcoming Rugby League World Cup (RLWC).

Kaliova, 29, is aiming to make a historic third time RLWC appearance for Fiji alongside players such as James Storer and Akuila Uate whom he played with during the 2008 and 2013 RLWC.

He said playing alongside his brother Leveni in this year’s Battle of the Bati was a motivating factor in itself.

“I feel good playing alongside him in this year’s Battle of the Bati and I will make sure to do my best in backing him up, because he is much faster than me and yes we are both aiming for a spot in the Fiji Bati RLWC squad,” Kaliova said.

The duo previously played together for Ratu Filise in the local rugby union sevens competition and also for the Fassifern Rugby Club in Australia.

Overseas Bati coach Wes Naiqama spoke highly of Leveni and tipped to be one of the players to watch.

“It is really exciting to be able to see some young prospects he had a really strong year, I think he was a top try scorer in his local competition so it is a credit to him and with the year that he had it is going to be exciting to see him showcase it.” Naiqama said.
