Taiwan provides financial assistance to equip Kiribati Police

TARAWA, 20 SEPTEMBER 2018 (RADIO KIRIBATI) – The Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has donated a cheque worth AUD$750,000 (US$544,000) to the Government of Kiribati for the project of ‘Equipping the Kiribati Police Service’.

The fund will be used for the procurement of police vehicles, motorbikes, handcuffs, flash lights, batons and other policing equipment needed for the service.

A statement from Taiwan Embassy said the procurement of the new vehicles and policing equipment will enable the Police Service to serve their purpose effectively and efficiently in upholding peace and security in Kiribati.

It said Taiwan cherishes the friendship with the people of Kiribati and would like to create a better living environment with happiness, love, progress and safety for all I-Kiribati.

Taiwan’s Ambassador to Kiribati Wen Cheng Sung presented the cheque to the Kiribati Police Commissioner Ioeru Tokantetaake at the Taiwan Embassy in Bairiki.
