TAILEVU youths successfully raised more than $32,000 during the first Tailevu Youth Day (Siga kei Luvei Tailevu) held over the weekend.
President of the Tailevu Youth Council, Jeremaia Merekula described the event as a significant milestone for the province’s youths.
“This is the first time for us to hold the Tailevu Youth Day,” he said.
“It was a three-day event from Thursday to Saturday.
“The first two days focused on raising awareness about social issues, including non-communicable diseases, health challenges, and the rising number of Tailevuans who are incarcerated.”
Mr Merekula thanked traditional leaders across Tailevu for their support, noting that the event aimed to revive youths’ involvement across the province’s 22 districts.
A few districts did not participate this year so the council plans to broaden engagement in future events.
“The preparation itself was not easy, but we are grateful for the support of the provincial council.”
Mr Merekula acknowledged the backing from Tailevu youths living overseas and in other parts of Fiji.
He said the successful fundraiser marked a positive step towards empowering Tailevu’s youth and addressing the social challenges facing their communities.
