Tailevu rugby wants to lift the standard of their performance in this season’s Skipper Cup.
Captain and forward Semi Degei, who plays in the number eight jersey, said there’s a shift in mentality as the players were passionate about representing their province.
“We have been preparing for four weeks now, if I must be honest, it hasn’t been great because we have no financial backing. However, I’m grateful to my brothers who have raised their hands to heed the call of the vanua and represent our province this season,” he said.
“Looking back at last season, we won our first two matches but lost a few after that maybe because we lost focus, injuries and external factors. This year we want to change that, gauge ourselves in the first round and improve our standards from there.”
Tailevu battles Namosi in the opening round at Thomson Park in Navua at 3pm today.
