THE Tailevu Rugby Union aims to achieve high results as they prepare for another rugby season.

Secretary Josefa Turaganivalu said they hoped to finish on top of the Skipper Cup competition and try to win the Farebrother trophy.

The association kicked off with their U20s competition at Ratu Cakobau Park ground two yesterday.

“For the U20s competition it is a full 15 men’s game with only 20 minutes a half, it’s fast-paced rugby and within five seconds they must set up play. The plan is to prepare them for the full 80 minutes,” he said.

“Fiji Rugby Union has advised us that on March 21 all round-robin competitions from all unions should be completed.

“Then we will be focused on all FRU competitions as we go along we will come up with the dates for us to continue with our club competitions to keep our teams occupied.

“We are hoping to get more clubs join this year and our target is to get in 24 clubs, compared with 22 teams last year.”

He also added that they are planning to be one of the top teams and if given a chance in the Farebrother Challenge, it’s a must they have to accept and try to win.

“We want to occupy our youths on Saturdays to come and play and enjoy each other’s company and now rugby is a pathway in getting employment.”

Turaganivalu said they would continue with their quarter-finals next week.
