AFTER a successful 2025 season, Tailevu Rugby Union is aiming even higher in 2026, with president Joe Rodan declaring the union’s clear objective is to win both the Skipper Cup and the Farebrother Trophy.
Rodan said the 2025 season was a turning point for Tailevu, especially after a new executive committee took over in July.
“For us, the new committee came in mid-season, and it was a quick turnaround. It was like a baptism of fire,” Rodan said.
“Now that the season is over, we have learned a lot. Using that experience, we will be much better prepared come 2026. We now know what to expect and what needs to be done.”
One of the major highlights of the season was Tailevu reaching the semi-finals for the first time in 14 years, a milestone Rodan described as a sign of progress.
“This year was special for Tailevu rugby. Reaching the semi-final after 14 years shows that we are moving in the right direction,” he said.
Rodan also acknowledged the strong backing from the Tailevu community, saying the vanua, fans and spectators played a huge role throughout the season.
“We have the full support of the vanua and our supporters, and that gives us confidence as we move forward,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2026, Rodan said the union is focused on building a strong foundation off the field to match its ambitions on the field.
“We have created Tailevu as a brand and we want to run it like a business,” he said.
“Our aim is to run Tailevu Rugby Union like a professional union. We want to be the best organised union in the country.”
Meanwhile TRU hosted their awards night at Vunimono Hall last night.
