Clubs affiliated with Tailevu Rugby Union have been requested to send one representative to be part of the referees association.
Speaking on behalf of the games committee, Joeli Tubu said the union needed more referees.
About 25 referees are under TRU, seven are from different clubs and others are volunteers who turned up during the games last weekend.
“We had our managers meeting yesterday and we were grateful to the referee association for coming in and explaining some implementation of rules during the club games today,” he said.
“The biggest challenge that we are facing is that we don’t have enough referees.
“Our main aim is that in round two a club must send in a name to be part of the referee and we will make sure that is done. “If the clubs don’t submit a name their team won’t be put in the draws for the next round of competition.
“We are requesting clubs to abide by this. Sometimes we have a shortage of referees or officials so we come in and help them. Each club must send in a rep to be part of the refereeing association.”
He said another challenge is the availability of the ground. Teams come from Nameka in Korovou and the transport is a burden for them.
“So, we are hoping to book the ground at Sila Central High School just to accommodate the teams coming from Korovou.”
He said the increased number of clubs registered under TRU is the highest compared to the past years.
“We are also requesting that each club will come in with a women’s team. “At the moment we have four women’s teams and we are making it compulsory that each club brings in a women’s team.
