In a hard-fought match, Tailevu emerged victorious over Macuata 25-20 in the second round of the Skipper Cup competition at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

The close score tells a story of the determination, skill, and tenacity of both teams as they sought to leave their mark on the field.

From the kickoff, players from both sides displayed great physicality, agility, and tactical awareness as they sought to dominate in every aspect of the game.

The intensity on the field was palpable, as every tackle, pass, and kick was executed with precision and purpose.

Tailevu head coach Samisomi Baikeitoga said the team had lack of concentration and discipline problems that needed fixing before the next game.

“I told the boys to play our own game style and we can’t be making mistakes in our next match;” he said.

“We need to step up and also to control the tempo of the game.

“It was a tough game and in the second half I told the boys you need to be clinical in the breakdown.

“We will really work on our mistakes and come strong on our next game.

“We have a debut player, Epeli Fatai, who really stands out in this match. First time to play in the Skipper Cup competition as a first-five-eight and also our front rows did the job, and we got the win.”

Baikeitoga thanked the fans for the cheers and hopes the crowd support from Tailevu will be there in their next game.

Meanwhile, Macuata’s forwards impressed with their strength and tenacity in the scrums.

Their line-outs also put immense pressure on their opponents, but despite the great teamwork and well-coordinated mauls, it was Tailevu who emerged superior when the final whistle was blown.
