TAILEVU is aiming for a top five finish in the Skipper Cup tournament this year.
The side faces Nadi in its opening game today. Coach Samisoni Baikeitoga said he was happy with Tailevu’s preparation.
“We have come a long way since October last year. That’s when our pre-season training started,” he said.
“We’ve played five friendly games against Naitasiri (2), Namosi (2) and Northland. “On a positive note, we won the last two friendly games against Naitasiri and Namosi.”
Baikeitoga said Tailevu was chasing an upset win against Nadi.
“We respect Nadi. They have many Fiji Warriors players and top sponsors. Nadi is a top four team and we will do the talking on the field,” he said.
“We want a positive result on Saturday. It’s a dream of all the teams to win games and we’re no different. Tailevu is a development team and we have many U20 boys.”
Flying Fijians halfback Henry Seniloli and veteran utility prop Sakeo Latianara will be key players for Tailevu.
The side plays Nadi at Prince Charles Park. Kick-off is 3pm.
In other round one games today, Lautoka hosts Namosi at Nadovu Park, Northland faces Vatukoula at Gatward Park in Korovou and Tavua play Suva at Garvey Park. All games kick-off at 3pm.
