It’s been a long time coming for hooker Kavia Tagivetaua who is set to make his FIJI Water Flying Fijians debut from the bench tomorrow morning against Spain.
The Bua native from Lomanikoro who co-captained the Fiji U20 side in 2023 began his rugby career in the Japan Rugby League One with NEC Green Rockets, before switching to the Toyota Industries Corporation Shuttles Aichi in 2024.
He has been one of the standout players in the HPU and age grade pathways for the past few years and Bynes says he has worked hard to earn this opportunity.
“He’s been around the Drua program now for a couple of years he’s been in our squad in the background for a couple of years now giving him some development opportunities,” Byrne confirmed.
Tagivetaua is equality adapt as a backrower will bring some serious finishing power tomorrow.
“And now he gets a chance, his been training really well and he gets a chance to make his debut, and we quite excited for what Kavia can bring.” Byrne said.
Earlier this year Tagivetaua was promoted to the Fijian Drua’s main Super Rugby squad and is likely to make his Super Rugby debut in the 2026.
