The Tagimoucia Ranadi 7s team lifted the women’s cup title of the 2026 Sports Tok Niu Power 7s after a 15–0 victory over Silver Sirens in the final last weekend in Papua New Guinea.
Speaking from PNG, team founder and manager Ana Rabuka said the side was determined to make up for last year’s challenges.
“Last year we had some travel complications particularly transit visa issues through Brisbane where only three players were able to get through to the tournament forcing the team to recruit local players and despite that setback, they still managed to win the Bowl competition,” Rabuka said.
Rabuka shared this year, it was a completely different story as they arrived as a full squad, and unity proved decisive as they dominated the competition and clinched the Cup title.
She added that the team’s journey wasn’t without early hurdles.
“Many players have just experienced international competition for the first time and playing in a biggest field like Santos National Football Stadium Club Lounge in Port Moresby for the first time.
“Nerves showed on day one, but as the tournament progressed, the squad settled in and became “unstoppable” by the second and third days,” she said.
She adds that the strong support from the Fijian diaspora boosted the girls and fuelled their performances on the field.
Looking ahead, the team has received invitations to other international tournaments, though participation will depend on future arrangements.
“For now, their focus shifts to returning home, where celebrations with family await while also keeping thoughts and prayers with loved ones affected by the recent cyclone”.
Rabuka affirmed the team is safe in PNG and are looking forward to bringing the cup home.
