FIJI Swimming staged its Short Course Grand Prix- Number Two at the Nadi Sports and Social Club yesterday, drawing a strong turnout of close to 200 swimmers from seven clubs across the country.

The one-day meet provided an important platform for athletes to test their form and push for qualifying times ahead of the national championships in November.

Vice President (West) Errol Taylor said the competition was significant in closing out what has already been a big year for the sport.

“This is the qualifying event for our nationals in November which will be our final event for the year.

He said the meet was blessed with beautiful weather in Nadi and ran smoothly as swimmers chased personal bests.

“It was good to see the senior swimmers maintaining consistency in their performances as the younger ones continue to step up.”

While no records were broken, Taylor said the numbers and effort on display showed encouraging signs for Fiji Aquatic as it looks to the future.

“We had approximately 200 swimmers from seven swimming clubs, and the level of competition was pleasing. This meet helps us track progress as we now gear up for the Oceania Games in May which we will host in Suva.

“We will continue to build for this competition,” he concluded.
