“We had a better start this season compared to last season, and we also have a good group of boys, so the depth is there compared to last season,” Sowani said.

The manager said the team had also placed greater emphasis on developing its culture, with players given clear targets to work towards each week.

“Team culture is something we have been building on this season and setting clear targets for the boys to achieve every Saturday,” he said.

Sowani said the team’s immediate focus was to finish the round-robin competition strongly before turning its attention to the playoffs.

“Yes definitely, the goal is to finish strong in round 11 and set our minds to the playoffs,” he said.

Suva reached the semi-finals last season, but Sowani said the team was determined to go further this year.

“Last year we reached the semis, we are aiming to do better this season. When everyone does their part and trusts our processes, things work out,” he said.

With their eight-match winning run providing momentum, Suva U20 now have one final round-robin match to consolidate their position before the playoff campaign begins.

The side will take on Navosa today at 10am at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
