Competition continued to swing into action in round two of the Suva Netball Association’s Club League competition at the National Netball Centre in Suva last Saturday.

A total of 94 teams, 10 clubs in nine grades are competing in the 13-week long competition.

Games co-ordinator for Suva Netball, Dominiko Tabuaura, highlighted how different the tournament looked for this year.

“We are developing some new tactics for the game, having the Super Shots for the super grade, mixed grade and the major grade; something new and exciting,” Tabuaura explained.

“The level of fitness is at top notch but we expect teams to train and get their fitness up, right up to the quarter-finals and finals.”

Tabuaura was immersed in the co-ordination of the day’s matches when this newspaper caught up with him.

He added with the inclusion of primary schools into the competition; it has given the club leagues a new dimension.

As the second round unfolded at the netball centre, fine weather gave way to intense matches taking place under the heat of the sun.

The competition format for the club leagues is divided into pool games and round-robin matches under specific grades.

For the pool games, grades falling into this category include the Angels and Roses.

In the round-robin format, teams play in the Princess, Development, Premium, Queens, Mixed and Major grades.

Teams on a bye for round two were the GH Kool Netters Blue in the Roses grade, Lomaiviti Gau Green and Rovers for the Princess grade, Naila Flyers in both the Development and Major grade and Lomaiviti Wakaya in the Mixed grade. Round three is planned for this weekend.
