The Suva Tennis Association has successfully concluded a transformative 10-day junior training tour at Japan’s prestigious Yoshida Tennis Training Centre.
The invitation-only program provided Suva’s rising talents with elite tennis development and deep cultural immersion, shaping both their skills and mindset.
Known for its iconic soft pink banner symbolising Japan’s cherished cherry blossoms, a sign of renewal and growth, Yoshida’s philosophy inspired players to embrace every challenge with purpose.
Mornings were devoted to cultural experiences such as calligraphy, tea ceremony, taiko drumming, and traditional dance, helping players develop focus, discipline, and listening skills.
Afternoons featured high-intensity tennis sessions alongside Japanese juniors, offering a firsthand look at the precision and work ethic that define Japanese sport.
Head Coach Sumit called the tour “a turning point,” noting significant mindset shifts in players as they learned to value discipline and execute with greater focus.
Team manager Saroj Izumi highlighted the need for continued coach education and longer attachments abroad to sustain this progress.
With Japan hosting several ITF events, including one at Yoshida, Suva Tennis sees potential for future collaborations.
The association thanked Yoshida Tennis Training Centre for its hospitality and remains committed to building pathways that elevate Fiji’s tennis talent internationally.
