The Suva football team has climbed to second spot on the Digicel Premier League table after beating Esy Kool Nadi 4-0 at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

Suva rep Maxwell Thaggard said denying Nadi possession was their strategy ahead of the game and it paid off- “Our focus was to keep possession,” Thaggard said.

“They executed well, we knew it would be a tough game and our players worked hard to get what we came for.”

The Unique Rubber Stamp-sponsored Suva side bought the home crowd to life with a 16th minute penalty goal from Shahil Dave to take the crowd favourites in front.

Merrill Nand spearheaded the Suva attack, with his silky footwork splitting open the green defence to slide a clear pass through for Ramzan Khan to extend the lead on the 25th minute with a well timed volley past Nadi goalie Vereti Dickson.

Suva added a third goal in the second-half through Iosefo Verevou.

Azariah Soromon scored the goal of the day in full-time after Dickson wandered a bit further out from the goal for Soromon to lob the ball unchallenged and well calculated into the back of the net.
