SUVA head coach Solomone Nute believes the introduction of young U20 players and the presence of Fijian Drua signings are beginning to shape his side into a stronger force in the Skipper Cup competition.
Following Suva’s 49-32 win over Vatukoula in the sixth round at Theodore Park on Saturday, Nute highlighted the gradual adjustment of his younger players as one of the positives from the match.
“We have some U20 boys coming into the team and for them to acclimatise themselves in the senior Skipper Cup, they took their time to adjust. When we played in the sixth round, they came out victorious, which is a stepping stone for us,” he said.
The capital city side remain the only undefeated team in the tournament, and Nute believes the balance of youth and experience will carry them forward. He also welcomed the inclusion of Fijian Drua squad member Iosefo Namoce, whose presence he said is proving to be invaluable.
“We also have some Drua signings like Iosefo Namoce coming in, so that’s a good experience which will be guiding our team forward,” Nute added.
With the halfway stage of the competition approaching, Suva’s depth and ability to integrate rising talent alongside seasoned players could be the key in maintaining their perfect record and pushing towards another title.
