Suva boys shine on opening day

SUVA District made a strong start on day one of the 2025 McDonald’s Inter-District Championship at the Fiji FA Academy grounds in Ba yesterday, recording wins in all their boys’ grades.

In the feature U14 category, Suva edged Dreketi 1-0, while their U12 boys side impressed with a 4-0 win over Navua before hammering Dreketi 6-0 later in the day.

The U10 boys also continued the winning run with a 5-1 victory over Dreketi.

Fiji FA head of talent identification Sunil Kumar said he was impressed with the standard of football on display.

“This is the opportunity for these young players to come and display their talents. It’s ideal to scout young talents from here.

“The atmosphere has been fantastic, a real festival environment with great talent on display. It was a wonderful first day of IDC in Ba,” Kumar said.

Other results yesterday included Ba defeating Navua 4-0 in the U14s, Rewa beating Lautoka 3-1, and Nadi recording a 4-0 win over Navua.

In the U12 boys, Tavua edged Seaqaqa 2-0, Rewa and Ba drew 2-2, while Lautoka held Labasa 0-0. In the U10 grade, Nadi claimed a 4-0 win over Labasa and Seaqaqa drew 1-1 with Navua.

The tournament continues today with more matches across the U10, U12, U14 and girls divisions.
