A senior accountant based in Suva, accused of threatening to circulate intimate photos of another woman, has been granted a $500 non-cash bail bond.
Swastika Payal Chand made her first appearance before Magistrate Sofina Ali at the Suva Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.
Ms Chand, represented by lawyer Mohammed Saneem, is facing a count of traffic in obscene publication.
The 30-year-old accused is alleged to have extracted explicit photos of the 23-year-old victim stored in a phone belonging to her partner and sent to the victim, while also threatening to circulate the photos to others.
The alleged incident only came to light on July 4 when the victim was informed that the photo was sent via a messaging platform.
Ms Chand’s sureties- her father and stepmother were accepted and reminded of the consequences if she fails to appear in court.
Ms Ali also ordered the accused to report to the Valelevu Police Station once a month while also adhering to the strict and standard bail conditions.
The matter will be called before Senior Magistrate Sufia Hamza on July 14.
