A road construction company in Savusavu suffered an estimated $750,000 loss after three of its vehicles were set alight at Naveria Hill.

Precast Fiji Pte Ltd owner Vijay Raj said the incident involved two excavators and a truck, which were destroyed in the fire.

“Two of my excavators and a truck were set on fire at Naveria Hill on Sunday. I received a call around 7pm,” he said.

Mr Raj said by the time he arrived at the scene, police and fire officers were already attending to the blaze.

He said the incident had caused significant financial and operational setbacks for his company. “It is very difficult to grasp why someone would perform such an act, to destroy a person’s hard-earned asset worth $750,000.”

He said the destroyed machinery was essential for ongoing road works in the area, and the loss would affect project timelines. Police have confirmed investigations are ongoing into the suspected arson attack.
