A MOMENT of composure from 22-year-old left-back Adam Supyk proved the difference as Extra Bula FC secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over PNG Hekari FC in Ba on Sunday.
In a tightly contested encounter, Bula FC were forced to show patience against a disciplined Hekari side that remained well-organised throughout the match.
Clear chances were limited, and frustration began to build as the home side struggled to break through a stubborn defensive line.
However, when the decisive moment arrived, Supyk rose to the occasion. Seizing his opportunity, the young defender calmly found the back of the net to hand Bula FC the breakthrough they had been searching for.
The goal ultimately sealed all three points in what a crucial result for the hosts was as they continue their climb up the standings.
Reflecting on the performance, Supyk acknowledged the challenge posed by their opponents.
“Yeah, a hundred per cent, we had to work very hard. They gave us a lot to deal with and defended really deeply and really well. We found it hard to put the ball in the back of it, but one moment and we took it,” said Supyk.
His match-winning contribution did not go unnoticed, as Supyk was named Player of the Match. The defender expressed his delight at making the goal count.
“I’m just grateful that I could put it in the cup… not many goals I get to celebrate twice, but it was good.”
Supyk also credited the passionate home support in Ba for pushing the team through the closing stages of the match.
“They were top men today and really pushed us all the way… it gives you that energy when you might be getting tired.”
Bula FC turns their attention to the next challenge, where they are set to face South Melbourne United tomorrow at 7pm in Ba.
