A MAJOR sponsorship boost has been secured by Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI) for the upcoming ZEG Kings Boxing Promotion event, which is scheduled to take place at the Vodafone Arena in Suva this Saturday. The general manager of LICI, Pradeep Shenoy, expressed his immense privilege and delight at the opportunity to sponsor such a significant event.

He adds LICI has a long history of promoting sports in Fiji, spanning 68 years, with a focus on encouraging various sporting events, including soccer and other minor sports. Shenoy noted that the company has previously supported boxing events, citing their association with South Pacific Boxing Promotions last year.

“As far as boxing, this is not the first occasion, when we have decided to associate with boxing, last year there was a series of events conducted by South Pacific Boxing Promotions, and we were one of the companies associated with them,” said Shenoy. “This event scheduled for Saturday, will be exciting and will be a full house and blockbuster event, it’s a matter of great happiness for me to associate the company with the event.”

Promoter Nahroon Buksh extended his gratitude to LICI for their sponsorship, recognizing the limited support from stakeholders in the boxing sport. Buksh emphasised the importance of corporate sponsors like LICI in enabling the staging of high-caliber events, such as the upcoming one featuring two WBA titles. “I like to thank LICI for coming on board as a sponsor, as you know boxing sport, there is not much support from the stakeholders, but there are some companies like LICI that always ready to support the sport,” said Buksh.

He adds staging a fight of this magnitude entails significant financial and logistical challenges, and the support from LICI and other sponsors plays a crucial role in alleviating the burdens associated with event organisation. Buksh expressed his gratitude for LICI’s contribution to the development of boxing in Fiji and highlighted the positive impact of such sponsorships on the sport.

With a total of 22 fighters prepared to compete, excitement is building for what promises to be an action-packed night of boxing.

In the main event, Junior Binnu Singh is facing off against Runqi Zhou of Australia for the inaugural WBA Oceania Super Bantam Weight Title.
