Blues hooker Soane Vikena’s maternal grandfather Mikaele Mataka sees him as a future All Blacks.

This after the bustling front rower put on a strong performance in their 30-14 win against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua outfit at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

“I am very proud of his performance as all his hard work has paid off today and he is really developing to be a very good player and hopefully a future All Black,” Mataka said.

Families from Lovoni, Ovalau and Naitasiri travelled to Lautoka to support their son.

“It is a proud moment for all of us here at home and we are planning a big feast for him and some of the boys.”

In a post-match interview, Vikena said it was a game to remember for the rest of his life.

“It is a special one. The performance from the boys was awesome and it was a really tough battle.

“The Drua playing at home, there was overwhelming support for them but I am happy that I played in front of my families and friends in Lautoka for the first time.”

Leon MacDonald’s men played with pace and elusiveness, scoring three tries to Drua’s two.

Blues 30 (Rieko Ioane, Cameron Suafoa, Dalton Papalii tries; Beauden Barrett 2 pens, 3 cons, Harry Plummer pen)

Fijian Drua 14 (Elia Canakaivata 2 tries; Teti Tela con, Kemu Valetini con)
