The bye-week has not affected the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s position much on the points table of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.
The Drua are in seventh spot with 13 points heading into the eighth round of competition this week.
They face the mighty Brumbies who are in third spot having lost only one of their seven matches this season.
Fijian Drua coach Mick Byrne said the fight for a spot in the final eight was still on.
“Our aim for the season was to make the playoffs. We remain in the top eight and with the remaining matches, we are still hopeful of a playoffs position,” Byrne said.
The Fijian Drua put on 33 points in the first spell against the Melbourne Rebels in their last outing but scored only five in the second 40.
Byrne said a good start was needed in every game if they were to maintain their consistency.
“Over the last couple of weeks, we were a bit slow on the blocks and we know we can go 80 and we know we can play, but we just needed a good start.
“I’m just proud of the way every single player came out (against the Rebels) to start the game and we got points on the board. It was more the performance we did, the way we did, the way we started was really pleasing.”
The Drua play the Brumbies at 9.35pm in Canberra on Friday.
