The Vatia cocaine case took a sharper turn today with allegations that one of the accused, Sunia Kobululevu who threatened police with gun violence on social media has been charged with conspiracy and unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
He posted a video on social media and stated that he will gun down all police officers from Lautoka to Ba if his cocaine was not returned.
Kobululevu is among five additional individuals further remanded in custody by the Rakiraki Magistrates Court in connection with the 2.6-tonne cocaine seizure.
He faces charges of conspiracy and unlawful possession of illicit drugs, along with an added charge of criminal intimidation linked to the alleged online threats.
The group — Norman Fisher, Manasa Saladrau, Sunia Kobululevu, Trevis Cheer and Anaseini Rokolati — is accused of conspiring to transport and store 2.6445 tonnes of cocaine.
State lawyer John Rabuku confirmed that the first phase of disclosures has been partially filed. Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci remanded the accused in custody and transferred the case to the High Court in Ba, where it will be heard alongside 11 other accused persons on February 27.
