The possible privatisation of the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s (FSC) mills remains part of ongoing discussions as Government reviews the future structure of Fiji’s sugar industry.
Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica said no final decision had been made on the future ownership or operation of the mills, with evaluations still underway.
His comments followed a meeting at Takia Hotel involving Government stakeholders and the committee tasked with examining challenges facing the sugar sector.
The discussions focused on key issues affecting the industry, including restructuring options, improving profitability and determining the most effective model for the future management of the mills.
Mr Kamikamica confirmed that privatisation remained one of the options being considered.
“It’s part of the process and right now it’s probably too early to say what’s going to be done,” he said.
He said a major restructure of the sugar industry was certain as Government worked towards creating a more sustainable and profitable sector for farmers, workers and other stakeholders.
