The United Kingdom says it will maintain the UK Global Tariff and increase its raw sugar import quota by 65,000 tonnes from January 1, 2026.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Charan Jeath Singh said in Parliament, Fiji will continue to enjoy duty-free access under the UK–Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement for the next eight years.
“This is a major diplomatic and trade victory for Fiji and a clear vote of confidence in our sugar industry,” Mr Singh said.
The Rarawai Mill will resume crushing today, he said. “This is a strong signal that our rehabilitation efforts are delivering results and that this Government is getting the industry moving again.”
