The Lautoka Volleyball Association (LVA) will start its weekly club competition at the Multi-Purpose Courts this week.
The competition will resume after a lapse of a year because of COVID-19.
The LVA held its knockout competition last Saturday which attracted an overwhelming response.
LVA vice-president Josaia Marau said they had more than 30 teams. “We had about 18 men’s teams, 12 women’s teams and three under-19 boy’s teams,” Marau said.
“We have been developing the younger players over the years and decided to give the U19 boys a chance to play in their own category.
“For the men’s and women’s divisions we had divided the teams into pools. For the boy’s U19 it was a straight round robin competition. With the start of the weekly competition, the LVA expects the number of clubs to increase.
“We have a lot of new teams that have registered this year so everyone is a winner,” Marau said.
“After the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, we can tell that there are more people engaged in sports.
“They came out in numbers to support the knockout event. We will start with club games this week and are looking for sponsorship for the competition.”
