THE Suva Tennis Junior Elite team recently concluded a highly successful competitive tour at the 25th Annual Margaret Court Cup in Albury, Australia, held from January 9 to 20.
Representing Fiji with six players and two coaches, the team showcased their talents on the international stage throughout a week of intense singles and doubles competition.
Amiel Montanari was the standout performer, capturing the Men’s C Grade Singles title and finishing as runner-up in the C Grade Doubles.
This achievement was particularly memorable for Montanari, who received his trophy from Australian tennis legend and 64-time Grand Slam winner Margaret Court during a special presentation ceremony.
Other members of the junior elite team also delivered strong performances against their Australian counterparts.
In the U16 boys’ singles, Vihaan Sharma was the runner-up, while Dhairya reached the semi-finals of the U14 boys’ singles.
Rian Amin also impressed by advancing to the quarter-finals in both the U14 boys’ singles and doubles.
The girls also made significant progress in their respective categories, with Bethan May and Milena Montanari reaching the round of 16 in the U14 girls’ singles and doubles.
Led by coaches Sumit Lal and Storm Cornish, the tour placed strong emphasis on discipline and sportsmanship as such international exposure is crucial.
