THE Newmont Joint Venture has made submissions for a three-year extension of their exploration work in Namosi, according to Lands and Mineral Resources Minister Filimoni Vosarogo.
In an interview with this newspaper, Mr Vosarogo said the extension aims to focus on desktop research.
“This is to firm up on the appropriate extraction method best suited for the nature of the mineral ore body discovered at the Namosi prospect,” he said.
“Also to ensure there’s minimum ground work.”
Mr Vosarogo said this was currently under review and a talanoa session with the landowners remained pending.
“This is to discuss and decide on the matter after due process.”
The minister said there had been issues with the landowners regarding the exploration work.
He, however, did not expand on what the issues were. He said the department had collaborated with the landowners to clarify issues and concerns regarding the exploration work.
