Schools across the Lau Group and parts of Fiji have joined the wave of celebration surrounding the installation of Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara as Tui Nayau, Tui Lau and Sau ni Vanua o Lau.
Over the past two days, students and teachers donned white and red – the recommended colours for the historic occasion, in a show of unity and cultural pride.
At several schools in the Lau group and Viti Levu, pupils participated in flag-raising ceremonies and sang traditional hymns as part of activities to mark the installation.
Similar scenes played out in Suva and Labasa, where students with links to Lau wore red sashes and white uniforms to class.
The coordinated show of support from schools is one of many tributes pouring in across the country, underscoring the significance of the return of Lau’s chiefly leadership.
