A six-year-old boy remains in critical condition in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM) after he was allegedly hit by a bus at Reba Circle in Nadera, Nasinu on Tuesday evening.
Romeo Vincent Rokotuinasau, the third of five siblings and a Year 1 student at Rishikul Primary School, was reportedly struck between 6pm and 6.30pm while returning home after dropping off a friend with three other children.
His mother, Ledua Koroi, said the child was on his way back home when the incident occurred.
“The kids in the neighbourhood and my son’s friends told us that a bus hit him but the driver didn’t stop to help,” Ms Koroi alleged.
His father Jonetani Romeo Rokotuinasau was among the first at the scene and assisted in arranging transport to hospital.
Since admission, Romeo has undergone three surgeries, with doctors working on severe injuries including his pelvis, bladder and kidney complications.
“Doctors said they have to work on his pelvis first before moving to the bladder,”
They also claimed they had not received any form of contact or sympathy from the bus company or driver.
They confirmed a report has been lodged at Valelevu police station. Questions have been sent to Police.
