The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a Strong Wind Alert for several parts of the country, warning residents and mariners to take precautions as strong winds and hazardous sea conditions affect the group.
The alert is now in force for the land areas of Yasawa, the coastal areas of Rakiraki and Sigatoka, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Southern Bua and Udu Point. It also applies to all Fiji waters.
The weather office is urging people in the affected areas to stay informed, secure loose items around their homes and properties, and monitor the latest weather updates.
Mariners, particularly those operating small boats and vessels, have been warned that strong winds will create rough and hazardous sea conditions.
The Fiji Meteorological Service is advising against unnecessary travel at sea where conditions are unsafe and has urged boat owners to ensure vessels and equipment are properly secured.
Those already at sea are encouraged to closely monitor weather conditions and follow advice issued by the relevant authorities.
The weather office is reminding the public to exercise caution and avoid putting themselves or others at unnecessary risk while the strong wind conditions persist.
