THE Fiji Rugby Union has ambitious plans for women’s rugby starting in January next year.
These plans are earmarked to take the Fijiana teams to an even greater stage while building up towards the next Women’s Rugby World Cup cycle.
The work began in October this year with negotiations for more quality games for the national women’s 15s team.
“We met with Head of HPU for World Rugby and negotiated for more higher quality games for our Fijiana women’s team and the response has been positive.
“At this stage it is looking like a minimum of six high quality games for the Fijiana will be held next year onwards,” FRU Board chairman John Sanday stated.
Fijiana’s performance at the last two women’s world cup has not gone unnoticed.
“World Rugby was pleased with the efforts of our Fijian Women in the recent Women’s Rugby World Cup. Overall, though, the Women’s Rugby World Cup has turned out be a huge success and augurs well for the women’s game into the future.
“FRU will continue to invest in our women’s game and the Fijiana to make them world beaters at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2029.
“In addition, we have ambitious plans to take Fijiana women’s Rugby to a very high stage with a strong investment plan starting in January next year,” he added.
Apart from this, Sanday said the FRU continue their yearly 7s programs for women and men as it is a critical pathway for player to grow into the national teams.
