The CETWUF strike notice issued to EFL yesterday – CETWUF

A strike notice has been formally issued to Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), with industrial action scheduled to begin on February 15, by about 500 members of the Construction Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji.

A letter dated January 9, 2026, signed by union national Secretary John Paul has been written to the CEO of the company.

The union has also informed the Arbitration Court of the intention of its members to go on strike in accordance with Section 191(1) of the Employment Relations (Amendment) Act 2015.

According to the notice, strike action will commence at 7am on February 15, 2026, and will continue until an agreement is reached with the employer. The walk-out is expected to take place at EFL workplaces and workstations around the country.

The notice states that the proposed strike will involve tradesmen, staff and senior staff.

The union outlined several grievances in the letter, including EFL’s alleged refusal to enter negotiations on the union’s 2024 and 2025 Logs of Claims, both of which include a proposed 10 per cent wage increase.

Other issues raised include the alleged failure to pay shift allowances to workers performing shift duties, the refusal to pay live-line allowances to crane operators working at height and calls for an upgrade of live-line workers’ rates in addition to existing allowances.

The union says the strike action will proceed unless these matters are addressed and a satisfactory agreement is reached with management.

The union has also claimed separately that senior executives at Energy Fiji Ltd received a combined $3.3 million in salary and allowances last year.

According to the union, this is a 13.8 per cent increase from 2023.

Mr Paul had said ordinary workers have not received any wage increases for 2024 and 2025.

CETWUF claims EFL is delaying fair wage talks and dragging disputes through court, ignoring workers’ struggles.

Questions sent to EFL yesterday remained unanswered.
