Police are investigating a series of incidents in the Suva area after a stolen vehicle was allegedly used as the getaway car in two aggravated robberies.
The vehicle, a grey Toyota Hilux with registration MY367, was reported stolen from an apartment compound in Delainavesi at about 3am yesterday.
According to the family of the owner, three men entered the compound before disabling the vehicle’s security system and driving away with the newly-purchased vehicle.
Police confirmed the stolen Hilux was later used in two aggravated robbery cases in Suva and Samabula.
In one incident, suspects allegedly targeted a hotel along Waimanu Rd where liquor and cash were stolen.
Another robbery occurred at a private contracting company in Samabula, where company officials are still working to determine what items were taken.
“The getaway vehicle was fitted with a Government number plate.”
Police said efforts are underway by joint teams to locate the vehicle and those involved in the robberies.
“A separate line of investigation is also looking into how the suspects obtained the Government number plate.”
The family of the owner has urged anyone who may have seen the grey Toyota Hilux, either bearing the registration MY367 or a Government “GS” plate, to report it to the nearest police station or contact Iliesa on 7687233.
Meanwhile, police are also conducting house-to-house enquiries following a reported break-in at the office of an Assemblies of God Church in Kinoya.
The alleged sacrilege was discovered by a senior church official and reported to the Valelevu Police Station shortly after 9am yesterday.
“Officers from the K9 Unit and the Crime Scene Investigations Unit were deployed to the scene, with officers also looking at CCTV capabilities in the area,” police said.
