AS the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team takes onto the field from tomorrow for the Vancouver 7s, a key aspect guiding them in this outing is ensuring they remained focused and aligned with the task that lay ahead.
Head coach Richie Walker has emphasised how the team needed to maintain a resilient approach as the series evolved, in light of varied results achieved by the team so far.
“The key focus is around that and to support the girls because we know when you get into these stages and we don’t get the outcomes that we’re really looking for, it probably affects the players the most, right?,” Walker told Times Sport in a virtual press conference from Canada yesterday.
“And what that said is when we look at the film, we look at the positives in that and how they keep fighting, they keep battling and that they are in training a lot and there is a lot of pressure put on them.”
The team has had to bounce back repeatedly from finishes in seventh to eighth place in some legs of the 2025/26 HSBC SVNS and the onus now delved in how the players’ spirits needed to be kept at a high level to ensure they were ready for the next job.
“But what that said is that we’re constantly reminding them that there’s only a couple of key areas and key moments that will make us not be in those positions (and) to be in better positions.
“So it’s more about putting more of the positive stuff that they’re really good at and they’re really close.”
The bond between the players in camp has been a close one and the camaraderie they have is a key factor that will aid them in their quest of redemption tomorrow.
