A total of $30 million will be used for the upgrade of informal settlements on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, said Housing Minister Maciu Nalumisa.
Mr Nalumisa said four informal settlements are in the construction phase while two more informal settlements are to commence with construction this financial year.
“The four informal settlements in construction phase right now are:
• Sakoca in Nasinu which has 174 households;
• Tavela in Nadi which has 68 households;
• Field 4 in Lautoka with 77 households; and
• Tore in Lautoka as well,” Mr Nalumisa said.
“Two informal settlements are also to commence its construction this financial year which is Vuniika in Labasa with 101 households, and Wabuyaya in Ba which comprises of 35 households.
“Tiny works are also underway for 16 informal settlements and are earmarked for completion of engineering plans by the end of this year before progressing into construction phase.”
