A hearing for the State’s appeal in the case of former schoolteacher Kishore Kumar has been scheduled for January 30, 2026.
Mr Kumar appeared before Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull at the High Court in Suva today.
Assistant DPP Laisani Tabuakuro, in carriage of the appeal, is seeking a guideline judgment for similar future cybercrime offences.
Mr Kumar was charged with making false pornographic claims against Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Lenora Qereqeretabua, where he faced six counts of causing harm by posting electronic communication and a count of criminal intimidation.
In April, his 32-month sentence was suspended for five years. He was also taken to St. Giles Hospital and released from the State’s custody after being registered as an outpatient and assigned a case manager.
The father-of-one was also charged with posting a video in which he uttered abusive words towards Agni Deo Singh, the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, where he was handed a 12-month jail term suspended for three years.
Defence lawyer Shivani Narayan will also be filing additional submissions before the hearing.
The case has been adjourned to December 12 for mention.
