The Google family’s luxury yacht had berthed off Nawi Island (pictured below) in Savusavu, according to staff member Losefati Ligairi.

He said actor Tom Cruise was also said to have been be on Nawi Island at some point.

“It was before my time, but people still talk about it,” he said.

Mr Ligairi said Savusavu Bay regularly hosts super yachts from around the world.

“Some are too large to enter the narrow channel, and they anchor just outside the bay.

“One of the more recognisable vessels, The Beast, is believed to be owned by a well-known New Zealand jeweller.”

‘I used to house-sit a super yacht owned by her American friend, Diane.

“I check on it weekly. I dust, make sure everything works, just basic upkeep.”

Mr Ligairi said super yacht owners were often older than many expect.

“Most of the people I’ve met at the marina are middle-aged or elderly.

“A lot of them are women, and some are even the captains.”

Far from being party boats, many of the yachts are family-oriented.

“You’ll see elderly people and children living aboard.

“It’s a peaceful lifestyle, not wild like people assume.”

While rumours occasionally surface about illegal activities such as drug smuggling, marina staff stress that these are just rumours.

“Most yacht owners here are responsible and respectful. That stuff doesn’t represent the majority.”

Mr Ligairi added that every yacht berthed at Nawi is also checked by the authorities.
