The HFC Bank Stadium may re-open in the next three weeks. Fiji Sports Council executive chair Gilbert Vakalalabure hinted works on the Stadium tracks were nearing completion and they may open the facility sooner than expected.
“The track is ready now and we are just waiting for the marking of the lines.
“We’ll be opening it maybe three weeks from now.
“The contractors are waiting for a line marker from London to mark the tracks for World Athletics accreditation.”
Sphynx Solutions, the Australian-based engineering company contracted for works on the tracks confirmed that the project was scheduled to be handed back to the Fiji Sports Council by January 26.
“The synthetic tracks at the National Stadium are almost ready, just the marking is left.
“By February, everything should be back to normal so facility-wise, Fiji is in a better position now,” Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru stated.
The completion is timely as Fiji is set to host the 2024 Oceania Athletics Championship from June 4-8.
Restoration work on the synthetic tracks at the stadium began in August last year.
