St Therese of Lisieux College’s open girls’ grade team has made significant progress in this year’s Crest Chicken Fiji Secondary Schools Netball competition, advancing to the quarterfinals after a long absence.
Despite facing tough competition from experienced schools in Suva, the team managed to defeat Tailevu North College in the final pool match with a score of 14-11 yesterday.
Coach Lia Rogoilagi Tokobalavu expressed her pride in the team’s achievements, acknowledging the obstacles they had overcome.
“The competition is good, we faced a lot of difficulties in the way financial difficulties, but we still managed to make our way here to Suva to compete,” said Tokobalavu.
Coming from the interior of Bemana in Navosa, the team lacks the opportunities for regular club matches that schools in urban areas have.
“However, the girls’ dedication to training and their passion for the sport have propelled them to success in the competition.
“Last year, the team faced challenges in the pool games but used that experience to learn and grow.”
Making it to the quarter-finals this year marks a significant accomplishment for the school, despite their remote location, the support from the school and parents has been crucial.
