The under-19 Bhasin Cup of the Crest Chicken Fiji Secondary Schools Hockey is headed back to Ovalau.

This as St John’s College, Cawaci dazzled under the scorching heat of Laucala Bay in Suva beating St Thomas High School from Lautoka 1-0 in the final yesterday.

St John’s College lived up to its favourites tag and proved why they are the champions with a dominant performance on the new, fast and green national hockey turf.

Head coach Metuisela Masi was a happy man after the final expressing how special the win was for them.

“Oh boy! It’s a big thing for the team, the parent and supporters who have been with us this entire week.

“Hard luck for our girls who lost in the final, but we are going back with this trophy and that’s something to celebrate,” he said.

Both teams had met in the pool stages on Tuesday which gave Cawaci the edge it needed to come out victorious in the finals.

“It was a tough game; St Thomas gave us a good run, but the boys stuck to the game plan, and we are happy with the outcome.

“We knew which players to defend.

“I told them there are two boys in the opposing team that we should mark, and the boys did the job,” Masi added.

The team will enjoy the win and get back to business in the new year when they host the competition in Levuka.

Looking at other results, Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College (SSKMC) took out both titles for the girls’ division.
