STAFF members of South Sea Cruises took a day out of their busy schedules to clean Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative.
SSCG people and culture general manager Alalaini Naqoli said the initiative was carried out in honour of World Earth Day.
“Over the course of one hour, SSCG staff across departments came together to clear over 110 kilograms of waste, including glass bottles, plastic packaging, foam, and aluminum cans,” said Ms Naqoli.
“Waste collected was carefully sorted into categories: cans, plastics, glass, and other materials, and collectively weighed to understand better the types of pollution affecting the area.
“Glass and plastic waste topped the list as the most collected items.
“The aftermath left a visible impact, with litter scattered across the shoreline.”
She said guests also joined the clean-up campaign.
“We were also delighted to have tourists who were visiting the beach and families of SSCG employees join the clean-up efforts, making the initiative even more meaningful and inclusive.
“The team concluded clean up with refreshments and a volleyball game.
“The event not only removed visible waste but also brought attention to critical issues facing our coastlines — pollution, the urgent need for greater public awareness, and the importance of stronger waste management support.
“Through hands-on action, the SSCG team demonstrated the power individuals and businesses have to protect our natural resources and promote environmental stewardship.”
She added the SSCG remained committed to driving sustainability and wellness across its operations and the communities we serve.
“This event reinforces our pledge to care for the oceans, which are vital to Fiji’s way of life, the environment, and the tourism industry.”
