Merewalesi Vakacegu Roden, a Pacific Games gold medallist, was celebrated for her exceptional achievements and unwavering dedication as Fiji’s inspiring table tennis para-athlete.
The prestigious event, hosted at the French Embassy in Suva yesterday, marks a significant milestone for disability inclusiveness in sports especially women.
France ambassador Francois Xavier Leger said it was a very meaningful event not only for the embassy but also for our very special guest, Mere Roden and the sharing of the Paris 2024 and Terre de Jeux games spirit.
“She is not only an icon but also a sporting inspiration in the disability inclusiveness scene here in Fiji and we are glad that she is here with us, to accept our generous invite to be part of something unique such as this,” said Leger.
“She has spent a significant amount of her life to the sport of table tennis and represented Fiji at many international competitions and won medals.
“I would like to highlight that this year is very important year for sports diplomacy for France as we prepare for the Paris 2024 games and the Paralympic Games.
“And together with the staff at the embassy, we would like to also wish the very best to the athletes and officials that will be taking part in the games this year in France.”
Roden conveyed her deep sense of honour at being selected for recognition of her sporting accomplishments.
She extended gratitude to all those who contributed to making this acknowledgment possible and expressed eagerness for ongoing collaboration between the people of Fiji and France.
