Spain denied Fiji a third consecutive final appearance at the HSBC Vancouver Sevens with a thrilling 24-17 win.

Spain took an early 17-0 lead with three quick tries, but Fiji fought back before halftime to narrow the gap to 17-10.

Despite a sin-bin against Spain, Fiji failed to capitalise immediately, though Joseva Talacolo’s try levelled the scores at 17-17 early in the second half. Fiji’s captain Jeremaia Matana received a yellow card, leaving the team a man down, and Spain’s Anton Legorburu Anso scored the decisive try, with Roberto Ponce’s conversion sealing the victory.

Spain will face South Africa in the final, while Fiji will compete against Australia for third place.
