TWO brothers are grieving over the death of their mother in a knife attack at Tabataba, in Ba.
Her suspected killer is believed to have been under the influence of drugs when he attacked her.
At around 7.30am on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Anandi Devi was stabbed multiple times at her home, leaving her with deep cuts on her neck and hands.
She was found lying motionless in a pool of blood by her son, Praneel Kumar, who lived nearby, and he called his brother, Ritu Ritesh Ram’s mobile phone.
Mr Ram who was staying with his mother, had left their house early Saturday morning to repair his vehicle in Ba Town.
He then alerted the police of the incident and brought them home.
According to Mr Ram, the police took his mother to the Lautoka Hospital where she was admitted at intensive care unit until she died last Friday at 2pm.
Recalling the last moments with his mother, Mr Ram said she could not talk but tears kept rolling from her eyes.
“When I arrived home, I saw my mother lying in a pool of blood and with heavy breathing,” Mr Ram said.
“We went to hospital in the police vehicle. My mother had deep cuts on her neck, and both her hands were injured as well.
“The doctors could not save my mother because of the deep cuts on her neck.”
“We cannot believe that this would happen to our mother, and this is the first time ever for such incident like this to happen within our community”, Mr Ram said.
The suspect remains in police custody while investigations into the incident continue.
